General

What is SignCrunch?
SignCrunch is a web-based calculator that takes your DXF files and instantly calculates the raw material cost for every letter in your channel letter set. No more guessing — you get exact costs per letter, per material, in seconds.
Who is SignCrunch built for?
Channel letter fabricators, wholesale manufacturers, and sign shops that want to know their actual material cost instead of relying on rough estimates. Built by a fabricator with 20 years on the shop floor.
Why not just use $/inch pricing?
There's nothing wrong with quoting by the inch — most shops do. The problem is that nobody actually knows how much the sign costs them in raw materials. A 24" "I" uses about 19 inches of trim cap, while a 24" "S" uses about 47 inches. That's real money, and nobody is spending hours breaking down each letter by hand. It gets ignored because of time constraints. SignCrunch makes it effortless — drop your DXF, know your real cost, and quote with confidence.

How It Works

What file formats does SignCrunch accept?
DXF files only — the standard output format from sign design software like CADlink, FlexiSign, SignLab, Adobe Illustrator, and CorelDRAW. Your file must be drawn at 1:1 actual size.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
Your DXF files are sent to our secure server for calculation, but they are never stored. Files are processed in memory and discarded immediately. We never keep copies of your design files.
What materials does SignCrunch calculate?
SignCrunch calculates 15 line items across 6 sign types. Materials include: letter backing, white and colored acrylic face, trim cap, channel coil (black, white, or colored), translucent vinyl, translucent digital print (media + laminate + ink), opaque vinyl, opaque digital print, background panel, raceway aluminum, LED modules, and power supplies. Sign types: standard front-lit, front+halo, halo-only, cloud, cloud front+halo, and cloud halo-only.
How does the LED calculation work?
SignCrunch uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the centerline path inside each letter — the actual route LEDs follow during installation, not just the perimeter. This gives you accurate module counts, total wattage, and power supply requirements.
What about islands (letter counters)?
SignCrunch automatically detects islands — the enclosed areas inside letters like O, A, B, D, etc. The full letter face material is still counted because you're buying and cutting from a full sheet regardless — the island cutout is waste, but it's still part of your material cost. Islands do add perimeter length for trim cap and coil since you bend around them.
Can I adjust material prices?
Yes. The Raw Pricing tab lets you enter your exact vendor costs for every material — sheet costs, roll lengths, per-foot pricing, everything. Save your prices as defaults so they load automatically every session, export them as a file to share or back up, and reset to factory defaults anytime.
What is the raceway calculation?
SignCrunch measures the total width of your letter set and calculates the raceway material based on standard cross-section sizing. It supports single-line and multi-line sign layouts.

Technical

What browsers are supported?
Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend Chrome or Firefox on a desktop or laptop for the best experience.
Does SignCrunch work on mobile?
The calculator is designed for desktop use since you'll be working with DXF files from your design software. The landing page and account management work fine on mobile.
Can I save my projects?
Yes. Save your current calculation as a .scrunch project file — it includes your DXF data, all material assignments, vendor prices, LED settings, and theme preferences. Load it later to pick up exactly where you left off.
Can I export or print results?
Yes. Export your cost breakdown as a CSV file for Excel or Google Sheets, or use the built-in print templates. Shop print shows the full material breakdown with per-letter costs. Client print shows a clean proposal with your per-inch sell prices — material costs stay hidden. Both include a DXF preview image.
Can I save my vendor prices?
Yes. Save your material prices as a named library and they load automatically every session. Create multiple libraries for different vendors or job types, and switch between them instantly from a dropdown in the Raw Pricing tab.
